About the Conference

 
Organized under the auspices of the Ministry of Water and Energy (Ethiopia), and in collaboration with the African Union Commission and the UN Economic Commission for Africa, “Hydropower for Sustainable Development 2011”, is a high-level two-day conference gathering policy makers, regional planners, civil society representatives, industry leaders and the financial sector to discuss policy challenges and solutions for the development of sustainable hydropower in Africa.
 
This conference is co-organized by the Ministry of Water and Energy, UN-ECA and AUC, in collaboration with EEPCo (the Ethiopian Electric Power Corporation) IHA (the International Hydropower Association), and Sinohydro (Main Sponsor).
 
Partners include: African Development Bank (AfDB), EDF, European Investment Bank (EIB), NORAD, Volta River Authority (VRA) and the World Bank.
 
The conference will elaborate recommendations on a pathway for sustainable hydropower development for the benefit of Ethiopia, the East African region and beyond.
